Ghana Scholarships Secretariat Unveils Transformative Education Initiative

In a significant move to enhance access to higher education, the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat (SCHOLSEC) has announced its 2025/2026 Local Tertiary Scholarships Programme, allocating 5,000 slots for Ghanaian students. This initiative aligns with Ghana's broader commitment to democratic reforms and educational access, with 2,000 positions specifically reserved for brilliant but needy students.

Digital Innovation in Scholarship Administration

SCHOLSEC Registrar, Mr. Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, unveiled a fully digitized application process during a press briefing in Accra, demonstrating Ghana's progressive approach to government services. The application window runs from July 30 to August 15, 2025, with interviews scheduled across various MMDAs from August 18 to August 30.

Application Process and Eligibility

  • Online application through www.scholarships.gov.gh
  • Three-phase process including personal details submission
  • Online aptitude test completion
  • Face-to-face interview at chosen MMDA

Following recent government reforms in public services, the program maintains strict eligibility criteria. Public university applicants must be in Level 200 or above, while private institution students can apply from Level 100.

Anti-Fraud Measures and Transparency

The Secretariat has implemented robust anti-fraud measures, emphasizing that applications are entirely free. A dedicated WhatsApp line (0559 285 646) managed by the Criminal Investigation Department has been established to report any fraudulent activities.

"Education is not only the key to personal transformation but also the engine of national progress. Through this scholarship programme, we are investing in the minds and dreams of the next generation," stated Mr. Asafo-Agyei.
