In a significant development for Ghana's maritime sector, the Ghana Industrial Trawlers Association (GITA) has elected Dominic Asamoah Danquah, known as 'Mr. Fish,' as its new National President during a landmark Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Prampram.

Historic Election Marks Industry Transformation

The election, which took place during GITA's first AGM in nearly two decades, saw Mr. Danquah secure a decisive victory with 22 votes against his opponent's 11. The event, occurring on August 21-22, 2025, gathered over 40 corporate member companies and more than 100 individual members, demonstrating a strong push for industry-wide transparency and reform.

Leadership Vision and Industry Challenges

Danquah, who serves as Managing Director of A.S. Domdanq Limited and Akrafi Fisheries Limited, emphasized unity and strategic communication in his leadership approach. His victory comes at a crucial time when the industry faces various challenges, similar to how other sectors of Ghana's economy are undergoing significant transformations.

"Unity is our greatest strength. It is our trump card in presenting a united and formidable front for the survival of this industry," Danquah stated during his address.

The new president highlighted the urgent need to address widespread misconceptions about the trawling industry, pledging to implement reforms that would enhance transparency and accountability in the sector.
