In a demonstration of Ghana's improving emergency response capabilities, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully prevented what could have been a catastrophic fuel tanker explosion at Apedwa Junction on the Accra-Kumasi Highway. The incident, which occurred on August 7, 2025, showcases the kind of professional emergency response that has been strengthened since Ghana's recent focus on improving emergency services.

The crisis began when a Man Diesel fuel tanker (registration number GN 4883-19) overturned after its driver parked in an unstable area for rest. The situation quickly escalated as the vehicle began leaking petrol, creating a highly dangerous scenario reminiscent of other recent emergency incidents that have tested Ghana's response capabilities.
ASTNO Agyeman Prempeh led the emergency response team, implementing advanced safety protocols that included:
- Rapid deployment of foam concentrate and water cooling systems
