Western Regional chiefs and officials lead candlelight vigil for helicopter crash victims in Sekondi-Takoradi

Regional Leaders Unite in Mourning National Loss

The Western Regional Coordinating Council and House of Chiefs organized a moving vigil on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, to honor the eight victims of the tragic helicopter crash in Adansi Obuasi. The ceremony brought together security services personnel and residents from Sekondi-Takoradi and surrounding districts in a powerful display of national unity.

Call for National Reflection and Service

Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson delivered an impassioned tribute, urging Ghanaians to honor the victims' dedication to public service. His message resonated with similar sentiments expressed across the nation as Ghana continues to grapple with this profound loss.

"Remember our compatriots. We mourn them, but beyond that, we cherish the services they rendered to the country. Let it inspire us to serve and serve better," Minister Nelson emphasized.

Military and Traditional Leadership Unite in Tribute

Air Commodore Eric Yirenkyi, Garrison Commander and Takoradi Air Force Commander, praised the fallen heroes' exceptional service record. Meanwhile, Paramount Chief Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area called for national unity and progress in the face of tragedy.

National Mourning Continues

The state funeral for the remaining six victims is scheduled for Friday, August 15, 2025, at Black Star Square in Accra. This follows earlier memorial services where families and officials gathered to pay their respects.
