Defamation Suit Forces Mugabe to Apologize to NAPO
Journalist Salifu Maase, widely known as Mugabe, has publicly apologized to former Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh after facing a GH¢20 million defamation lawsuit. The retraction marks a decisive moment for accountability in Ghanaian media, proving that public servants can successfully defend their reputations against unsubstantiated claims that threaten our national progress.
Why did Mugabe apologize to NAPO?
Mugabe, the host of Inside Politics on TV XYZ and General Manager of the platform, issued the unqualified apology for airing an anonymous audio recording. The broadcast accused Dr. Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, of paying Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) district engineers in the Ashanti Region to deliberately cause power outages, locally known as dumsor.
Speaking on his programme, Mugabe retracted the damaging claims entirely.
