Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Ranking Member of Parliament for the Economy and Development Committee, has challenged the government to account for a GH¢650 billion budget allocation before launching a proposed $10 billion economic programme.
Speaking in a video shared by Channel One TV on X on October 19, 2026, the Ofoase Ayirebi MP said Ghanaians deserve a full report on what the existing initiatives have delivered before being asked to embrace a new one, according to GhanaWeb.
What Oppong Nkrumah is asking for
Oppong Nkrumah targeted the government's flagship promises: the 24-hour economy, the Nkoko Nkete poultry initiative, the One Million Coders programme and the proposed Women's Development Bank. President John Dramani Mahama and Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson have recently discussed a new economy expected to create jobs and stimulate growth, and that talk triggered the MP's response.
His core demand is simple and, frankly, hard to argue against. Parliament has approved two budgets amounting to roughly GH¢650 billion over the past two years. Where are the results?
«It's been two years since they were voted into power. The actual programme that contains all these details, till today, Parliament is yet to have an opportunity to debate and adopt it,» he said.
The government has presented the programme to Parliament, he added, but it has never reached the floor for debate or adoption.
Where are the SSNIT records and the jobs data?
Oppong Nkrumah questioned how many jobs have actually been created under the 24-hour economy, the poultry scheme and the coding programme, and how many women have benefited from the proposed credit scheme.
«They haven't even accounted for how many jobs they have created under the 24-hour economy, properly so-called, how many jobs they have created under Kokonke Tenkete and 1 million coders,» he stated.
